The blind and autistic woman Fitchburg resident had one of the most electric performances of the season with her rendition of Irene Cara's "Out Here On My Own."
“That was sensational,” Simon Cowell said. “Everything about that was just magical. Magical. You have such a talent. You have such an amazing personality.
“This is an audition I’ll never forget."
That magic started before Darcangelo had sung a note. Her boundless optimism and passion for performing had the judges singing her praises from the moment she walked onto the stage.
Her story, combined with her voice, secured her spot in "AGT" history.
“Not only is it beautiful and not only is it amazing, but when you sing, it is so exciting and gives everybody hope that maybe we can all achieve our dreams if we just go for it," judge Howie Mandel said. And you are a dream come true, young lady."
Darcangelo earned Heidi Klum's Golden Buzzer. That means she will head straight to the live finals of NBC's popular competition.
“I feel like I just fell in love,” Heidi Klum told Darcangelo. “And this ‘AGT’ journey is an amazing journey, and I would love to be your cheerleader and hold your hand all the way to the finish line. What do you say?”
The responses from the crowd and judges floored Darcangelo. She wept tears of joy as she walked hand-in-hand with her adoptive parents.
"I don't know if this is a dream or if I’m really awake," she said.
It was a full-circle moment for the woman who sang before she spoke her first words.
